Smylte guide

Download supported Pinterest photos and videos from one Pin

Smylte includes a download-only Pinterest action alongside its other social-post tools. It reads the exact Pin you provide and downloads supported photos or videos. This action does not save the Pin as a searchable Library entry.

These guides cover v0.55.15, available in the Chrome Web Store and verified on 24 October 2026. Site changes, account access and media formats can affect what can be saved.

What to know

  • Use a full pinterest.com/pin/ link for one Pin.
  • Choose photos or videos; Pinterest is download-only and is excluded from link batches.
  • Streaming-only videos and video cover images are not substituted for downloaded videos.

Before you start

Check that the Pin opens in your browser account. An accessible Pin may still disable downloads; Smylte does not bypass login, privacy or download restrictions. Download only content you have the right to keep.

If you copied a pin.it short link, open it in Pinterest first and copy the final full Pin URL. The full link identifies the Pin. Grant the requested site access for the download.

How to do it

  1. Open the shared link tool

Open Smylte, choose Add posts in the sidebar, then expand Save posts or download media. No Saved-list import source is needed.

  2. Paste the full Pin link

Place one full Pinterest Pin URL in Post links. The tool explains that Pins are not added to Library. If it reports a short link, resolve the link in Pinterest and paste the full address instead.

  3. Select the media type

Choose Download photos only for supported pictures or Download videos only for supported videos. A video cover is not a photo-download substitute for the video. There is no Pinterest Save this post operation.

  4. Keep the opened Pin available

Smylte opens the exact Pin in a visible source tab so loaded carousel players can be read. Let it finish on that Pin. If Pinterest opens a different Pin or changes to an access page, the action cannot safely continue.

  5. Read the final counts

Check Saved, Failed, Not confirmed, Unsupported and Cancelled separately. A cover is not confirmation. Open the confirmed file’s location when offered, then check the actual picture or video.

What is included?

The reader checks media associated with the exact Pin, including identified carousel items. Supported picture responses include common JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF formats; the video download path accepts identified MP4 files. Actual availability depends on what that Pin exposes during the run.

Smylte verifies the media type and file signature rather than trusting a filename alone. Streaming-only video, unsupported types, excessive sizes or incomplete responses can be rejected. A successful result does not mean original quality, every carousel item or every Pin format is supported.

Where the files go

Photo results use the configured download base’s photo_downloads directory; video results use video_downloads. Pinterest filenames include the Pin identifier and media number. Smylte does not create an extra per-Pin folder for this download action. Browser download settings may still affect the final location.

Downloaded Pin files are separate from Library records. They will not appear as saved Pin entries in Library search, and Full Backup & Restore is not a backup of these download-only files. Preserve them using your normal file backup.

Understand an incomplete result

  • No supported media for this download option means the requested kind could not be collected; it does not prove the other kind is available.
  • Not confirmed means Chrome’s completed-file evidence was not obtained. Check Chrome Downloads before retrying to avoid accidental duplicate downloads.
  • Stop download ends new work; already completed files are kept. Failed, unsupported and cancelled files are not counted as saved.

Limits to keep in mind

  • No Pinterest Library saving, board imports, profile imports or batch operation.
  • Only media associated with the exact Pin and supported by the reader and file checks can be downloaded.
  • Individual Pins and website changes can produce different outcomes.

Questions and answers

Can I download a board or paste several Pin links?

No. Pinterest supports one exact Pin at a time here. Pin links are excluded from the multi-link batch, and board or profile imports are not provided.

Can I search saved Pin text in Smylte afterwards?

This action creates files, not a Library entry. You can separately add a downloaded picture from your computer to Smylte, but that is a different action and does not turn the Pin into an imported post.

Why does a Pin play in Pinterest but not download?

Playback can use an unsupported streaming format or media that cannot be safely matched to the exact Pin. Smylte does not relabel a cover or streaming playlist as a downloaded MP4.

What should I check after an access warning?

Open the Pin directly and verify its availability to your account. If Smylte reports that Chrome has not loaded its download permissions, follow the displayed extension-reload instructions before retrying. It does not bypass site restrictions.
