What to know
- Import your own Saved list or publicly loadable posts from an exact public profile.
- Use one post or Reel link to save a Library entry or download media only.
- Only confirmed downloads count as complete; a thumbnail is not a saved video.
Before you start
Sign in to Instagram in the same browser where Smylte is installed. Grant the requested site access when starting an Instagram action.
For Saved, enter the active account’s username. Close other Instagram tabs because they share the site’s rate budget. Keep the import window on the page Smylte opened.
How to do it
Choose a source in Add posts
Select Instagram. Under From, choose My Saved list and enter your own Instagram username, or choose Public profile and enter the profile you want to read. The public-profile path checks the selected profile and each post’s author.
Review the import settings
Choose a Stop after limit if you want a smaller run. Only new (skip existing) skips posts already in the Library; turn it off when you intend to update them. Pictures only (skip videos) deliberately excludes video files.
Start and keep the source available
Press Start and follow the activity messages. Use Stop to end the run. A login, verification page, access block or rate-limit response stops processing; Smylte does not automatically retry around those restrictions.
Use an exact link for one item
For a single post or Reel, open Save posts or download media. Paste its link into Post links. Select Save this post, Download photos only or Download videos only. The download-only choices do not create a Library entry.
Check the result
For photos, confirm the choices in any photo picker that appears. Read the final status rather than assuming a button click saved a file. Open folder is available for confirmed download results; inspect the actual file before relying on it.
Which import fits your task?
| Source | What it reads |
|---|---|
| My Saved list | Supported items loaded from your own account’s Saved list. |
| Public profile | Exact-user post and Reel links loaded in the main profile grid, with author checks. |
| One post or Reel link | The exact supported item you provide, without scanning the profile or Saved list. |
Several links and saved collections
Supported exact Instagram links can be included in a batch of up to 100 posts. Put one link per line, choose the operation, press Preview links and inspect the list before Start batch. For saving, choose whether existing posts should be updated or skipped. This does not discover a complete account.
The optional Collections → categories setting reads your Saved collection names after a Saved-list import. When a post belongs to several collections, the first collection is used, and an existing category is preserved. It does not unlock another account’s collections.
Keep a usable local copy
Library saving and downloading media are different outcomes. Successfully saved text, previews and downloaded media remain viewable after the original disappears if you retain your local copy. A file that was never downloaded cannot be recovered from a preview. Back up available Library media.
Limits to keep in mind
- Instagram uses a minimum eight-second gap between posts; a lower delay setting does not remove that minimum.
- Site access, login and rate limits still apply. No private-access bypass or automatic retry of a block is provided.
- Loaded items and available preview comments are not a complete profile or comment archive.
Questions and answers
Why does the import say it left my Saved page?
Check that the account currently signed in to Instagram matches the username entered in Add posts. Switch to the matching account, return to Library and start the import again. A redirect to your profile is not the Saved page Smylte needs.
Does Public profile include every post or reply?
No. It reads matching post and Reel links that the main grid loads during this run and verifies the author. Private, blocked, unavailable or ambiguous items cannot be promised, nor can complete account history.
Why is there only a video cover?
A cover is a preview, not proof that a video file was saved. Check whether Pictures only was enabled and read the download outcome. Format or access limits may prevent a supported video from being retrieved.
Are all comments saved?
No. Instagram can save available preview comments; it does not use the Threads-specific all-comments collection mode. The offline Library’s Min reply likes filter may hide comments without like counts unless set to 0.
