What to know
- History imports use your current browser account’s Bookmarks or Likes.
- Existing X entries are skipped by default for History; updates are optional.
- Exact-post media checks exclude replies and quoted-post media.
Before you start
Sign in to X in the browser running Smylte and confirm it is the account whose History you want to read. Site access is requested when the action needs it. Access restrictions still apply.
For a one-post action, copy the exact status link rather than a profile, search or feed URL. Decide whether you want a searchable Library entry or just downloaded files. A media-only download does not create a Library entry.
How to do it
Choose the History source
Open Add posts, select X and use the History selector to choose Bookmarks or Likes. Likes opens the like-history route.
Decide whether existing entries should change
History skips entries already in your Library by default. To refresh them, enable Update existing X posts in Settings before a future run. This setting is separate from saving one pasted link, which updates that exact entry.
Start the History run
Press Start. Smylte reads the chosen list in an inactive browser tab and then checks the individual posts. Follow the activity messages and use Stop if needed. A login, access or rate-limit boundary can end the run.
Use a direct status link instead
Open Save posts or download media and paste the exact X post URL into Post links. Choose Save this post, Download photos only or Download videos only. This does not scan your Bookmarks or Likes list.
Check content and download outcomes
Inspect the saved entry and final download status. Only confirmed completed files count as downloaded. When Open folder is offered for a confirmed file, check the actual file; a poster in the Library is not evidence that a playable video was saved.
A post’s own content stays separate
The reader checks the exact status identity and associates only its supported content and media with that entry. Quoted-post media and reply bodies are not copied. A quote or recommendation is not permission to attach another author’s media to the selected post.
If a matching direct MP4 is available and passes the checks, it can be downloaded. If it is not, a Library save may retain an available poster and be marked Partial. Download videos only does not turn that poster into a video file. Different delivery formats or site changes may leave a video unsupported.
Process a list of exact links
For supported links, the shared link tool accepts a batch of up to 100 posts, one link per line. Choose the operation, press Preview links, review the list, then use Start batch. When saving posts, select whether existing entries should be updated or skipped.
A preview is a plan, not a download receipt. The batch handles supported posts sequentially and reports individual outcomes. Supplying a profile or History page instead of exact post links does not turn the batch into a complete-profile import.
Protect what has actually been saved
Search saved post text in Library, organize it with categories and tags, and back up available media with Full Backup & Restore. Successfully saved text, previews and downloaded media remain usable after an original post disappears if you keep the local copy. A poster-only entry cannot restore a video that never downloaded.
Limits to keep in mind
- No reply-body or quoted-media copying.
- A direct, verified video file is required for a successful video download; a preview is insufficient.
- Private, unavailable, blocked or rate-limited pages are not bypassed or automatically retried.
Questions and answers
Why are posts skipped on another History run?
Update existing X posts is off by default, so History skips entries already in the Library. Enable it when you want future History runs to update existing entries, or save one exact link to update that entry.
Does this save replies or the post inside a quote?
No. Reply bodies and quoted-post media are excluded. Save a supported exact link to the other post separately if you have access and want that post itself.
Why is a saved video entry marked Partial?
The entry may contain only its poster because no matching supported MP4 could be confirmed. Partial records are useful context but must not be treated as a downloaded video.
Can this import my entire X history?
No such completeness guarantee is made. Only supported items loaded from the chosen list during the run can be processed, subject to current access, limits and site behavior.
