Smylte guide

Save supported Facebook posts, photos and Reels

Facebook is one of Smylte’s supported sources, with narrow checks for exact posts, photos and Reels. Its Saved-list bulk workflow is a development candidate: signed-in live bulk importing is not verified, so this guide does not present it as proven complete-history backup.

These guides cover v0.55.15, available in the Chrome Web Store and verified on 24 October 2026. Site changes, account access and media formats can affect what can be saved.

What to know

  • Use an exact supported Facebook content link for a targeted action.
  • A post preview or Reel cover is not a confirmed media download.
  • Saved-list importing is a development candidate and includes only supported loaded items.

Before you start

Sign in to Facebook in the same browser and check that the target content is readable by your account. Allow the requested Facebook access. Login challenges, private content and rate limits are not bypassed.

Copy a direct content link rather than an arbitrary feed or search page. Supported identities include individual photos, Reels and recognized post routes. Sharing URLs can fail if their exact identity cannot be established.

How to do it

  1. Start with one exact item

Open Smylte, choose Add posts in the sidebar, then expand Save posts or download media. Paste an exact Facebook link into Post links and check the target.

  2. Choose Library saving or files

Choose Save this post to keep a supported record in Library. Use Download photos only or Download videos only for files without a new Library entry. Text-only posts have no photos or videos to download.

  3. Keep the source on the intended item

Let the opened Facebook source finish loading. Smylte verifies the exact content identity before collecting supported fields. If the page changes to a checkpoint, login or unrelated item, do not treat it as a successful save.

  4. Inspect the status and file

Read the saved, failed, cancelled, Partial or unconfirmed outcome. Where offered, use Open folder for a confirmed download and inspect the file. A cover image or accepted download request alone is not proof of a saved video.

  5. Use the Saved-list candidate cautiously

If the development version exposes the Facebook tab under Add posts, its From value is My Saved list. Start opens your own Saved list in a separate window and verifies supported exact items. Signed-in live bulk is unverified; do not rely on it as your only backup.

Content support is deliberately narrow

Exact-link readers handle supported ordinary text/photo posts, pure-photo carousels, direct photo links and Reels. A directly associated native video can be accepted only when its exact-post association and supported file are established. Mixed, shared, ambiguous or unsupported attachments may be rejected instead of borrowing nearby feed media.

Supported progressive video files can be downloaded when confirmed. A streaming manifest or separate video/audio streams are not simply renamed as a complete MP4. Availability depends on the target page, its format and what the current reader can verify.

Several links are different from Saved-list discovery

The link tool can preview up to 100 supported exact links, one per line. Select the desired operation, use Preview links and check the plan before Start batch. For Library saves, choose whether to update or skip existing records. Unsupported links can be excluded; a preview is not a receipt.

The Saved-list candidate discovers only supported items Facebook loads during that run. Unsupported, unavailable or ambiguous cards can be skipped. Neither batching supplied links nor scanning the loaded Saved list promises a complete Facebook account or Saved history.

Keep results separate

Library entries and media-only downloads differ. Search and categorize successfully saved entries, and use a full backup for available Library media. Download-only files need their own file backup. A local copy can remain viewable after the original disappears, but only for content that was actually saved and retained.

Limits to keep in mind

  • Exact-link actions are source-supported; this guide does not claim a signed-in live test of them.
  • Signed-in live Saved-list bulk importing is unverified and not release-ready.
  • No complete-history, every-video or every-comment guarantee. Site changes can invalidate previously supported structures.

Questions and answers

Does this guarantee a full backup of Facebook Saved?

No. The Saved reader handles supported loaded items only, and signed-in live bulk importing remains unverified. Treat it as a development candidate, not a proven complete archive.

Why was a shared post or mixed attachment skipped?

Smylte must establish which text and media belong to the exact requested item. Unsupported or ambiguous attachment structures are rejected rather than assigned to the wrong post.

Can every Facebook video be downloaded?

No. Reels or an exact post’s verified native video may expose supported media, but some delivery formats and access states do not. Covers and incomplete results are not counted as saved videos.

What happens at a checkpoint or rate-limit page?

Processing stops at that access boundary without bypass or automatic retry. Check the website state yourself and preserve the completed results before deciding whether another normal run is appropriate.
