What to know
- Save current deck as profile before loading another profile or making major changes.
- Free supports one page with up to 12 buttons; more pages, the 4 × 4 and 4 × 5 grids, and button glow require Pro.
- Choose a layout for recognisable controls rather than filling every available slot.
Before you start
Verify Bluetooth input before organising a deck. Layout changes cannot fix unsupported phone hardware or blocked computer pairing.
Save a profile and export JSON before replacing an important deck. Loading a profile replaces the current deck; it does not merge individual buttons.
How to do it
Save the setup you have now
Open Settings → Profiles & preset packs → Save current deck as profile. Name it, such as Writing Mac or Spreadsheet PC, and choose Save. Later edits to the live deck do not automatically update the snapshot.
Load a profile deliberately
Find the saved profile and choose Load. Read the confirmation that the current deck will be replaced. If you have unsaved changes, cancel and save them as a profile first. After loading, check the selected host and test one harmless button.
Try a preset without discarding your work
Choose Browse preset packs to inspect ready-made shortcut decks. Save as profile adds a snapshot without replacing the current buttons; Load activates a deck and replaces the current one. Preserve your live deck before loading a preset, then compare its shortcuts with your computer application, especially when you have customised that application’s keys.
Choose the grid for this task
Open Settings → Appearance & layout and review Grid size. Start with enough room to read labels and hit a button comfortably. The starter deck is 3 × 3; the free tier allows one page with up to 12 buttons. The 4 × 4 and 4 × 5 grids require Pro.
Separate groups into pages when needed
With Pro, enter Edit in Buttons and use Add page for another group. Select the numbered page chips to navigate. Edit mode also exposes Move page earlier and Move page later controls when multiple pages exist. Keep a stable position for the actions you use most often.
Profiles and pages are not interchangeable
| Item | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Current deck | The button setup currently being edited and used. |
| Saved profile | A named snapshot to load when switching tasks or computers. |
| Page | A group within a deck, navigated with page chips. |
| Preset pack | A ready-made starting deck whose shortcuts you should verify. |
| Export backup | A portable JSON copy, separate from simply saving a named profile. |
Make the layout easy to recognise
Group editing controls together and distinguish Copy from Paste. For timeline work, test navigation and repeated keys on a disposable project. Labels should describe results; colour can help identify a group without being its only cue.
Test spacing and button presentation in the phone orientation and text size you use. Larger grids fit more controls but can make labels harder to scan. Add pages to solve a grouping problem, not to hide essential actions.
Check host changes and automatic profile loading
Changing Host OS adjusts modifier conventions and supported default-key mappings in the live deck. It does not guarantee that every custom application shortcut is converted, and saved profiles remain snapshots. Keep clearly named Mac and Windows profiles and verify their keys after switching.
Profiles & preset packs includes Auto-switch by host for binding a saved profile to a paired computer. Use this only after both the profile and connection work. Check the loaded deck when reconnecting; the app provides an Undo switch entry for a reversible automatic change, subject to whether you have edited the deck since.
Limits to keep in mind
- A preset cannot guarantee the shortcuts configured in every host application or customised keyboard layout.
- Profile loading and automatic host switching can replace the live deck. Preserve a known-good snapshot and verify the active host and page before use.
Questions and answers
Does saving a profile back up my entire phone setup?
No. A profile is a deck snapshot. Use Export backup for a portable deck-and-profile file or review the separate Google Drive backup scope for selected settings.
Will Load combine a profile with my current buttons?
No. The confirmation says the current deck will be replaced. Save the current deck as a profile before loading another one.
Do I need Pro to make ordinary macros?
No. All macro step types and one page with up to 12 buttons are available free. Multiple pages and selected presentation or input features require Pro.
